I am not sure if this is a circus show or a comedy act.Originally posted by Lobot View PostThe Big 12 has entered a sponsorship agreement with the WWE for the Big 12 Championship game in Arlington.
Today, the Big 12 Conference announced a collaboration with WWE®, part of TKO Group Holdings (NYSE: TKO), for the upcoming 2023 Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship on Saturday, December 2, held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Ross Delenger at Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Big XII is ditching the Big part of its name and selling the naming rights for the entire conference.
Looks like I need to rename this thread to the Allstate XII

Maybe time to get rid of the 12 too. The AllState XVI makes sense.Originally posted by Lobot View PostRoss Delenger at Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Big XII is ditching the Big part of its name and selling the naming rights for the entire conference.

A lot of people on the birdsite pointed that out. I think the reason for not fixing that is that everything with the XII logo would have to go in the trash.Originally posted by longtimefan View PostMaybe time to get rid of the 12 too. The AllState XVI makes sense.Brent Wyrick

Given my puckish sense of humor, if Yormark is considering corporate sponsorships, so can everyone else. Here are some "modest" examples:
AAC: The Alcoholics Anonymous Conference (funding questionable);
ACC: The Ambulance Chasers Conference (funded by the plaintiffs bar, less 33%);
Big 10: The Atlantic City B1G Bingo Conference (funded by a portion of the Golden Nugget's profits);
Big 12: The One-A-Day Vitamin B12 Conference (funded by Big Pharma);
MAC: The Kraft MAC & Cheese (funded, unfortunately, by every grandparent in the US);
SEC: The Securities and Exchange Commission Sports Conference (funded by the US taxpayer; Greg Sankey would insist).
[Sorry about that. Back to reality.]

Something I failed to address on this announcement by Yormark is that they may “sell” 20% of the conference to a private equity group out of Luxembourg. Not sure on details on what they’re actually selling here.
The PAC-12 tried this in 2018 to create the instant cash flow for member institutions to do facilities upgrades and debt retirement but the proposal didn't go through in the end.
It looks this might be a stab at getting members in influx of cash for player payments.Brent Wyrick

Seems to me that it might be an instant cash grab. However, in the end, profits must be shared back to the private equity group.Originally posted by Lobot View PostSomething I failed to address on this announcement by Yormark is that they may “sell” 20% of the conference to a private equity group out of Luxembourg. The company involved is CVC Capital Partners. They own quite a few recognizable companies both here and overseas. For those who don't want to scroll through the whole client list, the important sports related ones are the Spanish La Liga soccer league and Ligue 1 and 2 in France. Also, the Six Nations Rugby League.
