Here's a piece from Pete Thamel from last night that lays out reasoning behind these potential AAC invitees and the TV payouts for each school.

The league will be examining expansion and is expecting applications from six schools this week – Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice and UAB – sources told Yahoo Sports.

That makes sense with the plan for UC to begin Big 12 play in '23. Now we just need to get news on the buyout negotiation.

        Chris Vannini:

Source confirms the AAC is expected today to announce the additions of Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB, UTSA, as @Brett_McMurphy first reported.

With the additions, the AAC will have a stranglehold on owls, containing all three FBS teams nicknamed the Owls (FAU, Rice, Temple). They should make a trophy.

Or the "Hoo Gives A Hoot" trophy. (Sorry about that.)

Aresco with an open letter to College Football. I think this is pretty much aimed at the ACC who doesn't want to deal with things and took their ball and went home.

As NCAA Division I athletics embarks on transformational changes in the coming weeks and months, and as the College Football Playoff (“CFP”) leadership looks to the future, we have a unique opportunity to reshape college football with a modern postseason format that will profoundly enhance the national stature of the sport. Recognizing that the current four-team playoff excludes worthy teams, the CFP Working Group (SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson, and Notre Dame Athletic Director, Jack Swarbrick) submitted a proposal for a 12-team playoff in June 2021 that is an enormous step in the right direction and remedies the shortcomings that have historically and recently affected FBS postseason football.  The proposal is fair, thoughtful, forward-focused, opportunity-embracing, and practical in its approach. In addition to numerous meetings of the CFP Management Committee (the group of ten FBS commissioners and Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick) since June of 2021, each conference and Notre Dame also vetted the Working Group’s proposal with their constituencies, including their student-athletes, over the summer of 2021. This has not been a rushed process. A firm majority, including some “Power 5” commissioners, has consistently favored a 12-team playoff containing the 6–6 model, i.e., the top six conference champions and six at-large teams comprising the field.

I saw this written in an AP article this morning:
"Replacing Houston, Central Florida and Cincinnati will be UAB, Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, UTSA, Rice and North Texas.

"The plan calls for the 14 teams to face each other at least twice during the four-year cycle - once at home and once on the road.

"The schedule also will include six annual matchups: North Texas-SMU; UAB-Memphis; Rice-UTSA; Charlotte-East Carolina; Florida Atlantic-South Florida; and Navy-Temple."

The AAC will continue to be division-less and that format will remain for four years. The top two teams will play for the championship.

I like the idea of the annual matchups.
