It’s about how it will pay out.

Television industry sources have told Sporting News that a new college football postseason will “easily” be worth more than double the current deal which paid out $174 million for 2011, and could reach $400 million to $500 million a year.

Delany said then that he didn’t expect the Big East to be part of the elite group, but that he didn’t know how many different levels of payouts would eventually come from negotiations.

I saw that last night. I wonder on what basis they would give the Big East less money than the ACC. Can't help but wonder if the Big East will be filing a suit in the near future?

If the big east gets excluded, I too see an anti-trust lawsuit coming out. (At least I hope they do) Especially if the ACC is included with the Big boys because if you look at on Field performance the New Big East kicks the Sh@# out of the new ACC.

All I can say is that someone in the Big East administration must have seriously pi$$ed off someone in one of the other power conferences a few years ago (maybe Trangese flirted with Delaney's wife or something) - because no matter what happens on the field, the rest of college football does its best to diminish the Big East at every opportunity. The ACC has been doing its best to play the part that everyone says the Big East plays (the losers), but they aren't the ones who get called out and told they should play 'big boy football' and stupid stuff like that. It's maddening to try to figure this stuff out.

Big East stance on future BCS = adelson

As a quick refresher, here is where the Big East stands as it enters the meetings, with interim commissioner Joe Bailey and senior associate commissioner Nick Carparelli representing the league.

•The Big East is in favor of a four-team playoff, with the current bowl structure incorporated into the semifinal round. The league is fine with a neutral-site national championship game.

•Forget about a selection committee. The Big East is not in favor a group selecting the four teams to make the playoff, ala the NCAA basketball committee.

•The Big East believes conference champions should be heavily considered.

Wednesday's detail-oriented BCS meeting at an O'Hare Airport hotel produced no definitive conclusions on playoff structure, access and location of games, although a four-team model continues to receive the most attention. The commissioners will report to their presidents before meeting again June 19-20 in Chicago. The BCS presidential oversight committee meets June 26 in Washington.

Rather than present one unified recommendation to the presidents on June 26, the commissioners likely will outline the options they've discussed and the evolution of the negotiations.

The only thing off the table, according to BCS executive director Bill Hancock, is the "status quo." And while neither Hancock nor the commissioners ruled out a plus-one model, which some presidents prefer, their focus is on a four-team playoff.

"We made progress in our meeting today to discuss the future of college football's post-season. We are approaching consensus on many issues, and we recognize there are also several issues that require additional conversations at both the commissioner and university president levels.

"We are determined to build upon our successes and create a structure that further grows the sport while protecting the regular season. We also value the bowl tradition and recognize the many benefits it brings to student-athletes.

"We have more work to do and more discussions to have with our presidents, who are the parties that will make the final decisions about the future structure of college football's post-season."

BCS commissioners reach consensus on four-team college football playoff

The commissioners from every major Bowl Championship Series conference and Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick announced Wednesday that they have “developed a consensus on a four-team seeded playoff” beginning in the 2014-15 season...

Though many of the details involved with this new postseason model remain unresolved , the commissioners will present their recommendation to a committee of university presidents that is scheduled to meet in Washington next Tuesday.

Pacific-12 Commissioner Larry Scott said after the news conference that the two proposed semifinal games would likely be played as part of the existing bowl system, although no set rotation has been announced. The championship game would likely be bid out to a neutral site, Scott added.

As for selecting the teams, Scott and ACC Commissioner John Swofford indicated there has been serious discussion about implementing a selection committee similar to the NCAA tournament in men’s and women’s basketball.

BCS changes: Why now? Who wins and who loses?

WINNERS. If it's college football, the Southeastern Conference must be winning. The playoff negotiations were no different. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive, whose teams have won the last six BCS titles, has been pushing for a playoff since 2008. It took a little longer than he would have liked, but he got his way.

LOSERS. As much as the BCS seemed stacked against the so-called little guys — those teams from conferences outside the six founding member leagues — a playoff-driven postseason could widen the gap between the haves and have-nots. While a playoff will increase the amount of revenue the postseason generates, those funds might be distributed more unevenly. Leagues such as the Mountain West, Conference USA and the Sun Belt will make more money in total, but could get a smaller percentage of the pie. And if schedule strength is going to be emphasized for picking the playoff participants, how do those teams fortify their schedules to match what the teams from power leagues already have built-in?
