So now we have a pair of true 5s. Haynes and Thiam appear to have exclusively played the 5 last year, and and I'm not sure we want either of them trying to chase perimeter players around defensively.
The big hole on our roster now is the 4, whether a mobile big or a tall wing who can rebound. McKinley certainly will fill a good chunk of those minutes. But I think we should prioritize an experienced rebounder now.Last edited by sedz; 04-17-2025, 10:05 AM.

Also before this he mentioned Baylor transfer Jalen Celestine potentially making a decision in the coming days. Celestine recently visited UC.Originally posted by GoBearcats31 View Post24 minute mark - Chad discussed Thiam situation on BCJ podcast

He could have up to three years. However, in the current age of "anything goes", it could depend on what his handlers demand each year. The same UCF staff member who gave the crystal ball to UC also said his sources from around P5 teams told him that Thiam's people have been shopping him since early-to-mid March. He added that the offer was $2M+, but he didn't elaborate as to how he received that information.

I think the only guy we've been linked to that fits this description is Christian Coleman from UAB. Apparently he had a Zoom call with us back on April 2. Not sure if he's still considering us.Originally posted by sedz View PostThe big hole on our roster now is the 4, whether a mobile big or a tall wing who can rebound. Coleman is not a bad pick. Decent rebounder. Appears to be exclusively a guy who plays offense in the paint. Most definitely not a three-point shooter. How is his defense? With Coleman, UC would have a nice 4 man rotation in the paint. Of course, this assumes that the news concerning Thiam is accurate.Originally posted by sedz View PostI think the only guy we've been linked to that fits this description is Christian Coleman from UAB. With Thiam and Haynes, how is that supposed to work out? Remember what happened with Aziz, Reynolds, and Lakhin. Everybody was unhappy with their minutes except Aziz. Let's hope that Miller is better at managing the minutes between these two bigs so that both are happy and want to give maximum effort.Last edited by leeraymond; 04-17-2025, 05:35 PM.

Here's what I posted about Coleman a couple weeks ago. He certainly has weaknesses but he's an elite rebounder. Right now our wings are small and not very good rebounders. I think we'll be relying on interior players more than last year when we had Mitchell and Skillings on the wings.Originally posted by sedz View PostColeman posted a 1.5 BPM this season, and 3.4 in 11 games against top 100 competition. He's a great rebounder (12% OReb) who takes care of the ball, but he's a poor shooter (only 28% on 101 midrange attempts), and a poor defender (negative defensive BPM).
Celestine would be the opposite option. He's a guy who can stretch the floor with 35% three point shooting, but an OReb rate under 5% that's more in line with a 2 than a 4.
